We play a game with Kinder Surprise Eggs in our house. I think they’re considered a choking hazard in the USA, so they’re not imported there. That’s too bad because this game is fun! You’ll have to come to Canada and try it.

I usually hide the eggs at Easter and put them in stockings at Christmas. Before we open the egg, we ask a question. One time my sister asked what would happen with a particular man who lived in Australia and she received a pink airplane. She now lives there with him and they have two children.

Sometimes you have to be creative in divining the answer. For instance, I had a friend ask if she would finish a particular project she’d been working on for years. When she opened the prize, she found it needed assembly and didn’t bother putting it together—which, to me, suggests a problem with completion!

I usually ask what will come up with my writing career, which makes me quite superstitious about my little prizes. I don’t want to throw these toys in the trash! That would be bad mojo. But there are many times when I get a polar bear or a little wind up car and I have no idea what the Kinder gods are trying to tell me. Such was my mystification when I received the prize below.

wildfireSMI honestly can’t remember when I opened the egg with this prize. I have a shelf where I leave these toys—coincidentally the same shelf where I keep my author copies. Every once in a while I dust—because it would be bad mojo not to.

I had recently completed Scorch when I came across him. I was so thrilled! He’s a smokejumper! The Kinder prediction came true!

Would you play a game like this with your family? What question would you ask it if you could play? I wish I could offer to send some Kinder Surprise eggs to you, but I think it would be illegal. I’ll offer up one signed print copy of Here Come The Brides instead, since Piper and Bastian make an appearance in Scorch. Sound good?

Help the wildfire evacuees in Fort McMurray! Author proceeds from pre-orders of Scorch will be donated to the Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal.

I have never heard of this game. I would absolutely love to win a signed print copy of Here Come The Brides. Thank you for the opportunity to win.

  3. That is a really neat thing. I don’t know what I would ask. Maybe – if I’ll get to travel to all the places I want to visit. I;m so looking forward to reading Scorch.

  4. i would love to play the game. i would ask what is coming up in our next weekend adventure; see if the prize has anything to do with it. such fun!

  5. I’m also from Canada so we’ve always bought Kinder eggs too. I love the fun of them, but I’ve never thought to ask a question like that first before opening the toy. That’s such a fun idea! It would be fun to ask about what the next year might hold.

  6. Sounds fun. My daughter bought a Magic 8 ball, so we have fun asking it questions… I remember doing it as a kid, too! It’s always fun to try and figure it out.

  7. I love Kinder Eggs, those little toys are so much fun but I never thought to ask it any questions! Next time I should ask if I’m going to will the lottery or a new car, LOL!

  8. We love kinder eggs too. We are originally from Europe and everytime we go back we can’t help ourselves and buy them. My daughter always ends up with cars and my son ends up with a mix of everything. It’s hard to explain that’s where the surprise element comes in. You never know what you are gonna get.
Congratulations on your new release. Can’t wait to read it.
