Ever wonder what’s going on behind the scenes in Marketing and Editorial at Tule? Lindsey is here give you a sneak peek!

1. What’s your favorite part about your job?

Authors! I love working with writers. They’re creative, fun, enthusiastic, and getting to be a part of sharing their stories with readers is so rewarding for me. Collaborating with them on different strategies for marketing is the happiest challenge. I’m hanging out with Sinclair Jayne, Debra Salonen, and Tule’s Managing Editor Meghan Farrell at RWA in the photo on the right. I love working with all of these ladies.

When looking at advertising, analyzing different elements like timing, author brand, cost, and return on investments is a big piece of the job. We want to be as strategic as possible when finding our readers to get them connected with our authors and their books. BookBub has been a fantastic partner, as well as other advertisers like Ereader News Today, Robin Reads, eBook Daily… I could go on all day! In addition to ads, our newsletter, website, and social media are of huge importance, so our readers know what’s coming and never miss a release.

On the editorial side of things, I love taking a role with submissions. I love to read, and finding something you really love come through the slush pile is so exciting. After we’ve acquired a book, weighing in on blurbs, series names, titles, and covers – all of the important elements that help convey the author and Tule’s message – doesn’t feel like work to me. I love the process, and keeping up with the market is a daily task, but an exciting one!

Which Tule title and non-Tule title are you currently reading?

For a Tule title, I’m currently reading The Other Side of the Bridge by Katharine Swartz. This is a women’s fiction title, and I absolutely love Katharine’s writing. Plus, I feel like I’ve gone on a vacation to Greece. Bonus!

Outside of Tule, I’m reading Heartburn by Nora Ephron. I am a huge fan of Nora’s screenwriting, (When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, anyone?!) so I really wanted to get into her books. She’s an inspiration. Not to mention genius. And hilarious. I could go on!

3. What can’t you get through the work day without?

Coffee! Obviously. It’s the first thing I do when I get into the office most days. Recently, Genevieve and I (our design and editorial assistant) have been listening to audio books while we work (currently on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban). Work days already fly by at Tule, but listening to Harry’s adventures while working make it that much more entertaining.

4. What’s your favorite music to listen to while working?

Ah, I just spoiled this question. I’ve mostly been listening to Jim Dale’s soothing reading voice. But I really like the new Sia album! I listened to it on repeat for a whole day… Also, Queen B is my addiction. If you haven’t listened to or watched Lemonade yet, you should!

5. Which fictional character would you be and why?

This is so hard. But probably any (good) witch from Harry Potter. I’m still waiting for my Hogwarts letter. It could happen!

After working in marketing and communications after graduation, while chasing the dream to work in publishing, she got her chance and relocated to sunny SoCal in October 2014 for the Marketing and Editorial Manager position at Tule. Lindsey’s been a book-lover her whole life, and is thrilled she gets to work with writers and stories everyday. Her travel bucket list is growing faster than she can keep up, but she prefers it that way.
