TEXAS COWGIRL: Release day blog post featuring Eve Gaddy!

I’ll tell you a secret. I love to write series. I didn’t start out that way. I’ve written a number of stand-alone books or books in a series with other authors. I wrote several books before I started my first series. I discovered I loved it.

I also discovered that if I had more than three main characters for the series, as in a family or a set of friends, I tend to send some of them away because I can’t figure out what to do with all of them. And then, once I’ve written the first few books in the series, it comes time to write the remaining ones. You know, the ones I sent away because I had no idea what their stories were?

One I particularly remember was Glenna’s story in my Gallaghers of Montana series. She was gone the first four books of the series. At first the family knew where she was, but then she disappeared. So for the last couple of books she was missing. Where she’d been was a mystery. To me and her family, as well as my readers. I was talking to one of my friends—Julia Justiss, who also writes for Tule—and she suggested that since she was a cowgirl and was into ranch management, she should have gone to Argentina. Argentina? That was a challenge. But fun. My working title for her book was The Amnesiac Cowgirl. The Tule crew didn’t think that would work, however so her story is Return of the Cowgirl.:)

As for Damaris’s story, Texas Cowgirl, in the Texas True series, I hadn’t sent her away. She’s in all three of the first books. Damaris is a huge part of the ranch since she and her brother Marshall run the horse breeding operation, Walkers Paints. Damaris is a cowgirl through and through. But while I hadn’t sent her away I wasn’t sure what her story was.

Nate Kershaw, one of the pilots of Devil’s Rock Airport who has showed up in a number of previous books, is a good friend of Damaris’s. She friend-zoned him early in their relationship. What she doesn’t know is that Nate has always been in love with her and he’s been waiting for the right time to convince her they should get together. Thanks to his grandma he comes up with a great idea. A fake girlfriend/possibly engagement. When Damaris agrees the sparks start to fly!

Now I have the remaining two Walkers to write about. The oldest and the youngest. Jedidiah is up next in Hot Texas Trouble with Cole’s story following, Texas Christmas Baby Bargain. I try to always make the books something that can be read as a stand-alone, though I always hope the readers will enjoy all the other books in the series.

How about you? Do you like reading a series? If you do, what is it you most like about reading a series?
