welcome

Welcome to Marietta, Montana!

We’re a quaint town located at the base of our beloved Copper Mountain. In the late 1800’s copper was king and mining engineers from Butte found copper in our mountains and the rush was on, flooding Marietta with prospectors, miners and folks eager to get rich. But the copper in Copper Mountain was more like fools gold, and in less than ten years, all copper mining in Marietta ceased.

Saloon in an old american western town
From humble beginnings, Marietta grew into one of the finest towns in the state.

By 1899, many folks had left, but a few hardy souls stayed on, and gradually homesteaders and European immigrants started putting down roots, raising cattle, and working the land.
Today Marietta is a thriving community of ranchers, cattlemen, and commercial enterprise and we’re proud of our colorful history. Every year we celebrate that history with The Copper Mt Rodeo, a three day festival held the first weekend of October. This year it’s our 75th anniversary and we’ve got an incredible line up of events planned. There are bigger rodeos in America, and rodeos with bigger purses, but you won’t find a rodeo anywhere with more heart.

Don’t want to visit during our rodeo weekend? Come to Marietta and stay in one of our beautiful bed and breakfasts or small inns and take in as much of Montana as you can.
In summer, hike up Copper Mountain and go rafting on Yellowstone River. Have kids? Check out the large Marietta City Park, just at the end of Main Street next to the Creamery – where you can get the best ice cream in all of Montana!

In the winter, enjoy skiing on the mountain, a fun sleigh ride through the hills or just cozy up and sit by the fire and read a great book.
Come visit us soon and see why Marietta, Montana has something for everyone, big and small.
