Paws, Claws & Curses by DeAnna Drake
A Purr-fect Relic Cozy Mystery | Book 1
Release Date: June 5, 2024

What are cursed artifacts, a talking cat, and a dead body doing in the sweet little town of Citrus Grove? That’s what spirited shopkeeper Rebecca Cuthbert wants to find out, and she had better do it fast because she’s the prime suspect in the murder of the town’s shadiest antiquities dealer.

It’s a troubling start to her reunion with her long-lost grandfather and a far cry from the Southern California vacation she was expecting. So far, nothing in Citrus Grove is quite what it seems. Not her grandfather, who suspiciously disappears at the strangest times, not his curious antique shop, which has more secrets than customers, and certainly not the oddball neighbors, with their hidden motives and questionable connections.

As Rebecca races against time with her new feline friend to uncover the truth behind a mysterious murder, she finds herself tangled in a web of danger and deceit as captivating as Queen Cleopatra herself. With help from unexpected allies and an often-exasperating, yet undeniably handsome detective, Rebecca must outwit the cunning killer before she becomes the next victim.

Dig into this delightful series of cozy mysteries filled with quirky humor, friendships, ancient mysteries, and magic.

No Room to Hide by Carol Light
Cluttered Crime Mysteries | Book 4
Release Date: June 6, 2024

Her business plan doesn’t call for sleuthing—but murder changes everything.

Professional organizer Crystal Ward has nothing against publicity—as long as it’s the truth. But a local reporter is putting Crys in the headlines for her role in solving crimes, not clearing out clutter. Now she’s receiving requests for services that aren’t on her website, and the spotlight is wearing on her family.

At least something good comes out of the unwelcome attention: Crys reconnects with an old friend, Eva, who hires her to sort through historical documents found in a Victorian house she wants to flip. Then a dead body turns up in the parlor, and Eva confesses she’s been receiving threatening notes.

Crys knows to draw the line on the services she’s willing to provide, but this is about friendship, not business. With the reporter hot on her trail, Crys tries to maintain a low profile as she sorts out the secrets. But good intentions aren’t enough. Will this client once again lure her into an appointment with a killer with no place to hide?

How Barbara Ankrum found excitement for her new series and latest release! (Plus, a giveaway!)

Hi Tule friends!

So happy to be back here on the Tule blog with a new book to talk about. This year, I’ve been head down writing this new four book series for you called The Hardestys of Montana. And oh, my, gosh. I have had so much fun writing it. For the first time in my long career, I’ll have all four books out in one year, which is a record for me. I’m not what I consider to be the fastest writer (understatement!) and after an annoying slab leak in my house and reconstruction, it’s been a challenge. But like always, all those challenges feed my stories and my characters’ arcs, and hopefully makes them relatable–which is really half the fun of writing these stories for you.

The Cowboy’s Bride, Book One in the series, (out now!) opens at a Dallas society wedding, naturally. Not the hero’s wedding, however. And ultimately, not the heroine/bride’s either. It’s more of a humiliating disaster for Isabella Stanford whose biggest mistake was not listening to that little voice that warned her that something was very wrong. But she’s always been the good girl, the one who never rocked the boat. Now look where it’s gotten her! Her only option now? Run. As fast and as far away as she can and start over.

Enter Will Hardesty, the handsome ex-NFL player, limo driver who rescues her and agrees to a cross-country road trip—for a fee, of course. He is dealing with his own loss as well—the awful injury that prematurely ended his career and, simultaneously, his marriage. He is not, however, prepared for what’s about to happen on this adventure with Isabella, or the detour they end up taking to his family’s Montana ranch in Montana that he left long ago. And neither one of them imagines finding love again in the most unexpected way.

Here’s a snippet:

She had a hard time imagining how shortsighted that woman must have been to have let a man like Will go. But then, here she was, talking about love as if it were a binary thing that one could take or leave. It wasn’t. Love, she’d discovered, was fluid and complicated and had a will of its own. Love chose you, not the other way around. And for all of her bluster and denial about never stepping foot in that emotion again, she could feel it—against her will—eddying up inside her as she lay beside him, feeling protective of him, ready to fight all the trolls who thought they knew him better than he did himself and would dare call him out.

The feeling took a different shape than it had for Theo, or any man for that matter, and had a different vibration even that settled in her chest whenever he was near. And before she could stop herself, she leaned forward and kissed him.

The first touch of her lips to his surprised him, and her for that matter. She hadn’t intended to kiss him then, or at all tonight. But there he was, looking all tousled and telling her things he probably never shared and she just … just … kissed him.

And oh! He tasted sweet, just as she’d known he would. Like a craving for her favorite gelato or, to tell the truth, freedom, she’d craved another one of his kisses all day. She began to pull away, to apologize for the uninvited kiss, but his answer was to close the gap between them with another kiss, this one better than hers. This one—if she’d been standing—would have buckled her knees. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer, until she was beneath him. She savored the weight of him, all the hard muscled strength of him holding her.

She forgot to think as his mouth moved over hers, his fingers buried in her hair, his breath coming hard and fast against her cheek.

Suddenly, he broke the kiss, touching his forehead to hers, eyes slammed shut. “I haven’t stopped thinking about kissing you all day,” he whispered.

“Neither have I,” she said, stroking the back of his neck, feeling the heat there.

“I told you that you wouldn’t have to worry about…”

“Does this feel like I’m worried?” She curled her fingers into his hair.

He smiled and kissed her again. “No.”

The Hardestys of Montana series follows four siblings in the Hardesty family, Will, his single-mom twin sister, Shay, the baby and fixer of the family, Cami, and Liam, the one holding things all together on the ranch. Book 2 Cowboy Don’t Go is already up for presale!

I hope you’ll love this series as much as I do.

GIVEAWAY: I’m giving away (2) two eBook copies of The Cowboy’s Bride to two lucky commentors. Just tell me if you’d ever visit a Montana guest ranch and what would be your favorite part of that trip? Winners will be chosen on June 1st. Please check back to see if you’ve won!

Tule Author Charlee James shares why she loved writing a good, grumpy and standoffish hero in her recent release Sworn to Honor

Hi Tule Readers!

I’m excited to share the second book in the SWORN NAVY SEALS series, SWORN TO HONOR. It is no secret that I love a slightly grumpy, standoffish hero who discovers how much love they have to give when they meet the one woman who can unlock their inner sweetness. I also love a compassionate, quirky heroine who more than deserves her happy-ever-after. She might not need an alpha hero to look out for her, but that doesn’t mean she has to shoulder everything alone.

As you delve into Julian and Sam’s story in SWORN TO HONOR, you’ll discover a few details that were inspired by real life.

Julian’s Mac & Cheese

Julian’s love language shows he cares through his actions. He understands that Sam has been on her own for quite some time and is independent. Still, Julian does little things to let her know he cares, including making his killer mac & cheese recipe as the ultimate comfort food after Sam has a particularly tough shift at the hospital where she is a music therapist. My husband, Jamie, is the chef in our house (I set off the fire alarm if I get within ten feet of a kitchen appliance). His macaroni & cheese is a staple at Thanksgiving, especially for our family’s picky eaters.

Try this recipe from Kitchen Treaty—you won’t be disappointed!

“After taking the elevator to the fifth floor, Julian unlocked his apartment door, holding it open. She stepped inside, and the scent of something wonderful, like melted cheese and smoked paprika, hit her nose. Her stomach growled, and Julian chuckled. She liked hearing the sound of his laughter, even if it was elicited by what sounded like a greedy gut goblin growling in her belly.

After the lunch Julian had brought her at work, it was a wonder she was hungry at all. The sandwich had been such a nice treat. She rarely splurged to buy herself lunch, either going without or bringing a yogurt. Funds were truly tight right now when they shouldn’t be. She’d never get rich being a music therapist, but she was a hard worker, sometimes taking clients six days a week. It was her guilt that was pulling her down into a pit of financial ruin.

“What smells so good in here?” She breathed in the scents coming from the kitchen and slipped off her shoes before moving any farther into his space.

“Thought you could use some comfort food after the day you’ve had. I make a mean mac and cheese. “Her heart flip-flopped. Julian was going out of his way for her, from promising to call a tow truck to bringing her favorite sandwich and coffee to work. Now he was making her dinner. He grabbed two bottles out of the fridge, the glass clanking together as he pulled them out with one hand. Julian popped the tops off and handed her one. She wasn’t sure if he’d made a special trip for her preferred beer, but she had a feeling he didn’t keep Blue Moon stocked in his fridge—not that she did, either. It was another one of those special treats that she didn’t allow herself often.”

Jacob

Throughout the story, many of the characters are brought together in some way by Jacob, who is introduced in the first book of the series SWORN TO LEAD. Jacob is Ransom’s (one of Julian’s Navy SEAL teammates) teenage brother who has spastic quadriplegia, the most severe form of cerebral palsy. Sometimes, the universe puts you on the same path with someone so special your life is forever changed for the better. Jacob’s disability does not define him, nor does it stop him from getting the most out of life. He’s fun, compassionate, and bold and his larger-than-life personality lends to new friendships wherever the teen goes. Julian is especially close to Jacob throughout the series.

“By the time the rest of Jacob’s classmates and friends showed up, there were at least a dozen kids, some of them accompanied by parents, peppered throughout the house. She was with Julian in the kitchen, making more punch to go in the cauldron, while Brynn and Silver were facilitating games and prizes. Ransom was refilling the food and Halloween-themed snacks. Branch assisted anyone who needed a break in the sensory room he’d set up.

“Looks like this party is a hit.” Julian scooped up more orange sherbet and added it to the pitcher.

She was separating orange slices, tossing them in with the sherbet when the wooden board got too full. “I love that there’s such a mix of kids here. Jacob has befriended the neurotypical teens, those who participate in Best Buddies, and all his classmates.”

“And all of them are having a blast. Some people might knock the younger generations, but I don’t think one person could argue that we’ve ever lived in a more inclusive time. Things can always improve, but we’re moving in the right direction.”

“I agree.” They shared a smile, getting sidetracked, until Ransom clapped his hand against the doorframe, startling “startling them both.

“Enough googly eyes. Punch is almost gone out here, and once it is, the werewolves and vampires will descend on me.” Ransom disappeared with the tray of cobweb cupcakes.

“He’s having way too much fun.” Julian grinned, the beauty of it momentarily leaving her breathless.”

Julian’s Obsession with Space

Growing up, my mom and I would watch Star Trek and Star Wars with a big bowl of ice cream. These memories are so special to me, just like Julian and his beloved twin sister’s fascination with all things space.

“He didn’t like sharing his personal space, even for a short period of time. The place wasn’t anything special, but it was his, and although his décor might seem sparse, it would give others a glimpse into who he was. Pictures of him and his sister—the only person he loved aside from his teammates. Wall art of deep space. The Millennium Falcon and other Star Wars replicas. Some Navy trinkets and memorabilia people had given him over the years. Bringing a woman there was like having a piece of his personality on display, and he let people see only what he wanted. Had he invited Sam into his space because his subconscious recognized she was important or had it been the desire to see how she fit there? God, had she fit. Like she’d always belonged.”

Thank you so much for being part of the Tule family! For a chance to win a digital copy of SWORN TO HONOR, please share a comment or question related to the blog post below.

Take a trip down to Louisiana with Tule Author Susan Sands (with surprise guest, Jane Porter!) to celebrate the release of Bayou Redemption!

Hi Tule readers! I’m so excited to be here today on the blog!

My latest Louisiana Series novel, Bayou Redemption, is out today. Cardiac surgeon, Elizabeth Keller, has appeared in the first three Bayou books as the clear villain until now. In book four, Elizabeth finally gets her redemption.

She’s considered a mean girl by pretty much everybody in Cypress Bayou—because she’s been one up until recently. But as with most bullies, Elizabeth’s been misunderstood and has a strong desire to change her image now that she’s got a recently discovered half-sister and a brand new nephew. It’s time to let go of old grudges and turn over that proverbial new leaf.

Elizabeth’s not prepared for Charlie Beaudine. The Cypress General hospital board has gone behind her back and hired a second cardiologist—one with more experience from a bigger hospital in New Orleans. A man. The good old boy network is alive and well in Cypress Bayou, and she’s in jeopardy of Charlie taking over as head of the department. Over her dead body. She sees him as her competition from day one.

But Charlie is a nice guy, a skilled surgeon, and he doesn’t seem to be after her job. Elizabeth is suddenly distracted by the news that Cypress Bayou is in the path of an unusually strong hurricane. The two surgeons must work together for the safety of the community and their patients.

As in all of my books, this story is chock full of family, food, and southern charm. Oh, and romance. Bayou Redemption is an “enemies (kind of) to lovers” and “stranger-comes-to-town-with-a-secret” story.

As a bonus, I’ve just returned from the real-life in Cypress Bayou (Natchitoches), Louisiana with Jane Porter! We ate at all the places in the books, strolled along the “bayou” which is really Cane River Lake, and wandered down Front Street through all the shops. We stomped around some very rural graveyards on red dirt roads, and then I had a book release event for Bayou Redemption at Many City Hall.

Back in October at a conference, we learned that her “family in the graveyard” resides thirty minutes from my hometown of Many, Louisiana. We then decided to go on this Louisiana adventure together. I’ll let Jane fill you in on her findings at the graveyards.

I hope you’ll check out my Louisiana Series and get to know the Bertrands, Kellers, and Carmichaels!

Check out some of our photos from Louisiana!

Lydia Lloyd’s newest Rake has entered the chat and he’s got it BAD for our resilient beauty in WHEN THE EARL DESIRED ME..

I am Lydia Lloyd and today is release day for my book, WHEN THE EARL DESIRED ME. The third in my Rake Chronicles series, this book is a high heat, second chance Regency romance between Lord Augustus Carrington, the Earl of Montaigne, and Olivia Watson, the resilient, curvaceous beauty who he has never been able to forget.

What can you expect in this one? When Olivia Watson was twenty years old, she was working as a maid in the London townhouse of the Earl of Montaigne—and before long finds herself in a torrid affair with the man himself. She thinks that they have not only passion but love, until he abruptly dismisses her from her position. Devastated but not one to wallow in heartbreak, Olivia accepts a position working for a wealthy woman bound for France, assuming that she will never again return to England. But, then, thirteen years later, her employer decides that her daughter needs to make her debut during the London season, so Olivia has no choice but to go back to her native country. Of course, she almost immediately runs into Lord Montaigne—and, to her great surprise, he seems intent on winning her back. She would love to reject the man coldly, and she tries, but he is persistent, and the same attraction that once crackled between them still lights up their interactions. Can Olivia forgive and forget? Or will the rakish earl, known in society as the Downstairs Menace for his serial seduction of servants, only break her heart again?

I am so delighted that this book is now out in the world. It is such an emotional love story and while I adore Olivia, I had even more fun writing the hero of this book because of the twist his character takes from the prior books in the series. I introduced Montaigne all the way back in book one, WHEN THE DUKE LOVED ME. Each hero in this series belongs to the same friend group of high-ranking noblemen, dubbed the Rank Rakes by society for their scandalous ways, and Montaigne has been a story I have been so excited to write since book one. To celebrate the release of Montaigne’s book, I’ve highlighted my three favorite things about him below!

#1) He is obsessed with Olivia & would do anything for her

You’ll have to read the book to see how obsessed I actually mean—but he is down bad for this girl from day 1 and never lets up, even though they are separated for thirteen years. I won’t reveal the extent of his devotion, but I will give a little hint of it: early in the book, he throws a ball just to get closer to her!

#2) He is a Rank Rake—but he actually isn’t a rake at all

WHEN THE DUKE LOVED ME introduces the world of the Rank Rakes through the perspective of its hero, John, the Duke of Edington. As far as John knows, he and his friends are all rakes who flout convention. What he doesn’t know is that Montaigne hasn’t exactly been truthful with the group about his actual erotic activities—and so Montaigne’s story is a sort of reversal of what John and Trem have presented to be true about the group in books 1 and 2. Not only does Olivia find out the truth about Montaigne, but the other Rank Rakes do, too.

#3) His sweet relationship with his family

In the first two books in the series, the reader only sees the roguish side of Montaigne. But in this book, I really highlight the sweet relationship he has with his tight-knit, Bridgerton-esque family. John and Trem (the heroes of book 1 and 2) are both orphans and are dealing with the fact that their families have been fractured or broken. But Montaigne is different—he comes from a big family and is close with his mother and siblings. The sweetness he shows them is core to his character. When his family is introduced, it is the first big clue that Montaigne is not what he has seemed in book 1 and book 2.

Thank you for reading! I hope you find a chance to pick up WHEN THE EARL DESIRED ME, especially if you love high-heat Regency romances!

xoxo,
Lydia

10 Years in the Making: How Megan Crane’s Love of Marietta Led to Cowboy Point

Ten years ago I went on a spectacular writing retreat on Flathead Lake in Montana and dreamed up a town called Marietta with a few friends I bet you’ve heard of. Later that year, my book TEMPT ME, COWBOY was not only the first book ever published by Tule—it was the very first book set in Marietta, Montana.

Since then I’ve written a bunch of quirky novellas and books set in and around Marietta, or having some connection to Marietta, as I (mostly) followed a bunch of cousins from the extended Grey family through their sometimes deliciously tortured journeys toward happy ever afters. I’ve gone on more Montana writing retreats—including one that took us on a road trip across the west to Deadwood, South Dakota, for an epic rodeo. I dipped in and out of Marietta over the years, and have a lot of pretty deep feelings about the place. To me, it feels like a place I lived in once and had to move away from.

Last fall, I got to revisit Marietta for the first time in years. I wrote TEMPT ME PLEASE COWBOY and got deeply nostalgic for cowboys, Montana, and beautiful Paradise Valley. Another road trip  up from Jackson Hole, through the Tetons and Yellowstone and on to Livingston, sealed the deal. I was nostalgic for big skies, soaring mountains, and cowboys who feel a little like both.

I wanted to come back to what feels so much like home to me.

That’s how Cowboy Point was born.

Cowboy Point is a tiny community on the other side of Copper Mountain, a good ten mile drive—in good weather—into Marietta.

The community is a mix of old time miners’ families who found the copper barons down in the valley a bit too heavy handed for their tastes back in the 1850s, cowboys and ranchers who’ve worked the land in the Gallatin Range’s more remote valleys for generations, the usual mountain types who are drawn to far off places, and the artists and other hermit-minded fancier folk that are everywhere in Montana these days.

Cowboy Point has no stoplights but it does boast one elementary school while the older kids are bussed into Marietta, weather permitting. There’s one small but feisty library, a feed store, and the General Store with its selection of conveniences on one side, a diner of sorts in the middle, and a bar on the other side over the creek. Not long ago, some folks opened up a pizza and ice cream sort of place across the road, and sometimes there’s live, local music to go along with the family-friendly atmosphere. There’s even the old Cowboy Point Lodge, the Jewel of the Rockies in its days, that has fallen into disrepair since the Stark Boys (now dead or in their 70s) spent their entire lives arguing over who should get to run it.

Most people either have deep roots here, like the Starks, and therefore a tangled family history to work out. Some have that and a grudge, like the Careys and the Lisles, who have been feuding since day one. Newcomers—meaning anyone who turned up after the early 1900s—might have fewer feuds and less ancient tangles, but one thing they all share is a deep sense of pride and place.

You have to want to live in Cowboy Point. It’s a lot easier to slide on down the mountain into Paradise Valley and live in places with fewer memories and a whole lot more services.

But once the high mountain air gets a hold of you, not to mention the spectacular views across one of the most beautiful places in all of Montana, you might find it hard to call anywhere else home.

That’s true for Harlan Carey, the oldest of the Carey brothers. He’s spent his whole life on his family’s ranch, was born on the land and intends to die on it—but not without doing his part to continue the family legacy.

Meaning: he needs a wife.

But he’s an overly practical man, so he figures that instead of dating around with time he doesn’t have, he’ll place an ad in the paper for the exact wife he wants, just like cowboys did for years when the west was still wild:

Cowboy looking for wife to work the land, help with the business, and raise the next generation. Must be practical, reasonable, and honest.

When Kendall Darlington answers this ad, Harlan has himself a mail-order bride. He figures that the fact she’s so pretty is a distraction, but once they get used to each other, they’ll figure out how to have the sort of practical relationship he wants.

Except more time with Kendall only means more ways to want her, and that’s before her messy past comes calling…

There are five books planned in the Careys of Cowboy Point series, all of which you can read about here, and no shortage of other fine folks in the area, so here’s hoping we get to spend a lot of time there together: https://megancrane.com/series/the-careys-of-cowboy-point/

The first in the series, THE COWBOY’S MAIL-ORDER BRIDE, comes out May 9 and I can’t wait to introduce you to Cowboy Point!

I hope you’ll love it there as much as I do!

The Echo by Melinda Di Lorenzo
The Lockwood Gate Thrillers | Book 2
May 7, 2024

Déjà vu can be deadly…

A year ago, Rose Mcgovern’s sister was found dead at the bottom of a bridge. A tragic accident. That’s what the police called it. What they still call it. What everyone except Rose believes to be true. But she won’t change her mind. No matter how many seconds and minutes and days go by, no matter how much time she’s had to spend in the psych ward, and no matter how much her life falls apart. She will never give up on her quest for the truth.

And now, it’s happening again.

Another woman’s body has been found. The circumstances are far too similar to be a coincidence. There might even be more victims. Which would mean that Rose was right all along. But the police have long since dismissed her as paranoid, and she’s driven away every friend she’s ever had. With nothing but her own conviction on her side, how can she prove that an accident is really a murder? And even if it’s possible, can she do it before she makes a deadly mistake and the killer claims her life, too?

Tangle of Lies by C.J. Carmichael
May 16, 2024

A murder rips through the quiet town of Tangle Falls, exposing a web of lies and buried sins.

Former science teacher Bobbie Galloway is shaken when a former student’s body is found along the tranquil river of sleepy Tangle Falls. She’s even more troubled that George Lindeman, another student of hers, is the prime suspect.

George was never able to escape the rumors surrounding his family’s death a decade ago and now he’s once again thrust into the spotlight of a murder investigation. Bobbie believes George is innocent. She never believed the rumors about him.

Hadley Hooper left Tangle Falls at seventeen but she’s back to right old wrongs. She believes George is innocent too. But can she be trusted, or does she have her own agenda?

As tensions mount in the aftermath of the murder, Bobbie is suspicious of Fern Sinclair, who just bought the deserted farmhouse next to Bobbie’s brother’s ranch. The home care worker claims she wants to restore the property’s garden to its former glory, but Bobbie can’t shake the feeling Fern is hiding something.

As whispers of suspicion echo through Tangle Falls, Bobbie embarks on a gripping journey into the heart of the town, unearthing secrets that threaten to unravel the very fabric of the community.

Rebecca Crowley Talks Writing the “Bad Boy” in her Latest Release TEXAS RECKLESS COWBOY

One of my favorite heroes to read – and write – is the bad boy. Who doesn’t love an outwardly devilish character secretly carrying around a heart of gold?

That’s why I’m excited to introduce you to Cy Powell, the hero of my most recent Tule release, Texas Reckless Cowboy. A scion of one of Last Stand, Texas’s most notorious criminal families, Cy’s last name has preceded him all his life. Even now, as a successful bar owner with a rapidly expanding real estate portfolio, his fellow citizens are known to cross the street when they see him coming.

Luckily for Cy, he has a rare opportunity for damage control. Georgia Star, Last Stand’s long-serving, meticulously ethical assistant district attorney, has found her one-horse race for the top job suddenly a derby, as an outsider with long-term political ambitions slides into town to run against her. She needs the voters parked on the stools in his bar, and he needs an upstanding stand-in girlfriend to impress real estate investors.

It’s an uncomplicated quid pro quo – until it isn’t. Cy has always played close to the lines of legality Georgia has dedicated her life to enforcing, yet there’s something about this charming ne’er-do-well she finds hard to resist. Cy is counting down the days until he can leave Last Stand and his insurmountable reputation behind, but he has to admit that Georgia makes his feet feel a little heavy. With the election looming closer, the clock is ticking on their fake relationship – which is starting to feel dangerously real.

I hope readers will enjoy this fake-dating, opposites-attract romance! Texas Reckless Cowboy is the second in a four-book series, so keep your eyes peeled for the next installment!

About the Author.

She writes contemporary romance with smart heroines and swoon-worthy heroes, and never tires of the happily-ever-after.
