SHE GETS A HAPPY ENDING: Release day blog post featuring Denise N. Wheatley!

I cannot believe that it’s time to say goodbye to Devon Jacobs and Ryan Roberts!

SHE GETS A HAPPY ENDING is Book 3 in my Fearless Fairytale series, and it is the last novel in the trilogy. Writing this series has been so exhilarating. I’ve shared with readers how Devon’s story is one that I’d been wanting to tell for years. Seeing it take shape, develop into three books, then end on such a high note has been a dream come true.

Most of my readers know that Christmas is one of my favorite subjects to write. From LOVE AT THE ICICLE CAFÉ to CHRISTMAS IN FULL BLOOM, holiday novels hold a special place in my heart. So of course I had to add a little Christmastime magic to SHE GETS A HAPPY ENDING.

In this book, Devon finds herself in the small, festive town of Leavenworth, Washington, filming a Christmas movie she wrote called With a Bow on Top. Ryan, who she’s on rocky terms with, shows up on set at the last minute after landing the lead role (unbeknownst to Devon). Let’s just say that chaos ensues. Amid all the drama, however, the pair realize there’s still love between them. It’s up to Devon and Ryan to decide whether that love is worth salvaging.

I am so proud of Devon’s journey throughout this entire series. In Book 1, SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS, Devon left her hometown behind, (along with her timid attitude), and boldly moved to LA to pursue her dream of writing for television. In Book 2, SHE GETS WHAT SHE DESERVES, Devon finally landed a job as a staff writer and went after the man of her dreams. In Book 3, SHE GETS A HAPPY ENDING, her career is at an all-time high, despite her relationship hitting an unexpected low. Wanna know how it all ends? Grab a copy of the book to find out!

I hope you enjoy reading SHE GETS A HAPPY ENDING as much as I enjoyed writing it. Tule Author Q&A: Denise N. Wheatley’s mom inspired her story!

Denise N. Wheatley topped by the Tule blog to discuss her new Christmas book, Christmas in Full Bloom!

Selective Focus Photography of Pink and Red FlowersWhere did you get the inspiration for Christmas in Full Bloom?

I have to give my mother the credit for inspiring Christmas in Full Bloom. Christmas is my family’s favorite time of the year, and the holiday season has always been a big deal around our house. So writing holiday stories that celebrate the season is such a pleasure. Also, like my book’s heroine, my mother is a floral designer. Incorporating her love of flowers into the book brought back wonderful memories of my mom’s beautiful designs.

How do you relate to Lauren, your heroine, and how do you hope readers will relate to her? How do you relate to Mel?

I relate to Lauren in that we’re both go-getters. Like me, she wasn’t afraid to step out and pursue her dreams. One thing I admire about her character that I wasn’t able to do was move away from my hometown to pursue my career. I grew up in Chicago and always dreamed of living in LA. But I’m such a mama’s girl that I never made that happen! Maybe one of these days…

As for Mel, I can relate to his character because he is so loyal to his family. Mel is a doctor, and his father owns a medical clinic in their hometown of Maple Valley, Michigan. Rather than move away and work for a big fancy hospital, Mel chose to stay in Maple Valley and work alongside his father. Sticking close to home and putting family first is something I’ve personally experienced.

I hope that readers can relate to my characters’ desire to find fulfillment in life, all while pursuing their dreams and balancing their careers.

Christmas in Full Bloom is a sweet second chance romance. What drew you to this trope? What’s your favorite trope to write?

I am a big believer in second chances, and love the idea of revisiting old potential flames in hopes that the second time around will be the charm. In both of my holiday novels, Love at the Icicle Café and Christmas in Full Bloom, my heroines have second chance encounters with heroes in which they share some sort of past. Exploring the possibility of a relationship with someone familiar is so exciting to me, both in fiction and in real life, which is why this trope is one of my favorites.

Do you have any favorite Christmas or holiday traditions?

I have a couple of wonderful Christmas memories/traditions from childhood that we still practice today. One is opening a gift on Christmas Eve. That is always a lot of fun. Another is trimming the tree together as a family. As a child, my father did the heavy lifting while my mother did the majority of the trimming. Now that I’m an adult, I do most of the work while Mom sits back and bosses me around!

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Just a Little Married by Reese Ryan. It’s about a woman who needs to find a husband immediately in order to claim an inheritance. She turns to a former flame and makes him an offer that he can’t refuse. Once they reconnect, they realize that the love between them never died. I am loving the book so far!

SHE GETS WHAT SHE DESERVES: Release day blog post featuring Denise N. Wheatley

I love chatting with readers and fellow authors about which they prefer, standalone novels or series. The answer is always mixed. People love both for different reasons. A Fearless Fairytale is the first series that I’ve ever written. And I have to say, I’m having a ball watching my heroine evolve with each novel.

Book 1 in the series, She Gets What She Wants, tells the story of Devon Jacobs, a small-town living, aspiring television writer whose dreams are way bigger than her confidence level. After getting her heart broken by her longtime crush, she throws caution to the wind and moves to LA to pursue her goals.

After I wrote that book, I thought I’d told a complete story. But then I realized that there was more to Devon’s life that needed to be explored. What happens after her dream of becoming a tv writer comes true? Does she make it in the business? And what about her burgeoning relationship with Ryan Roberts, the actor who she starts dating at the end of the novel? Does their relationship work out? And then there’s Devon beloved best friend, Gabby, who’s newly engaged and pregnant at the conclusion of She Gets What She Wants. Even I wanted to know what happens with her character after the book ended.

So needless to say, there was a lot of life left to this story. And I am so pleased with how my characters continued to grow in Book 2 of the series, She Gets What She Deserves. At this point, the hero, heroine and secondary characters have taken on a life of their own. They tell me where their storylines should go next. And as the tagline of She Gets What She Deserves says, some fairytales come with a plot twist. This book certainly did.

If you haven’t had a chance to read She Gets What She Wants, I certainly hope that you will do so. Once you’re done, I promise you’ll want to find out where life takes the characters next in She Gets What She Deserves.

Spoiler alert: I am currently working on Book 3 in the series, She Gets A Happy Ending. This novel is filled with just as many ups, downs, twists and turns as the first two. It also includes a fun spark of Christmas magic. So buckle up and join me on this exciting, fearless ride!

SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS: Release day blog post featuring Denise N. Wheatley

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well and staying safe in these trying times. After talking to fellow readers and writers, I’ve come to realize that books have been a wonderful escape. I’ve strived to continue writing during this pandemic, while pursuing my goals to the best of my ability.

I have always been a big dreamer. When I was younger, I dreamed of moving to LA and working in the entertainment industry. I still visit often (or at least I did before the pandemic), and work to connect with people in the business while planning to one day move there permanently.

Hollywood Sign

My love for California developed as a preteen, back when I was engrossed in Francine Pascal’s SWEET VALLEY HIGH series. The seed that series planted grew over the years, and eventually, the plot for SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS came to fruition.

This book tells the story of Devon Jacobs, a timid, small town woman who dreams of moving to LA and writing for television. After getting rejected by the man she loves, outgrowing friendships and tiring of an unfulfilling job, she boldly jets off to Hollywood and changes her life.

It was truly a pleasure writing Devon’s brave journey of self-discovery and self-love. She goes from being the benevolent supporting character in her own life to blossoming into the shining lead. But her pursuit of happiness isn’t easy. And although Devon is a fictional protagonist, I can’t help but admire her courage.

I hope that you enjoy reading SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS as much as I enjoyed writing it. The book is the first in my FEARLESS FAIRYTALE series, and I just completed the sequel, SHE GETS WHAT SHE DESERVES. That novel will be released in September. I look forward to sharing Devon’s ongoing adventures with you!

Take care of yourselves, and happy reading!

LOVE AT THE ICICLE CAFÉ: Release day blog post featuring Denise N. Wheatley

Hello everyone, and happy holidays! I am so excited for my Christmas release, Love at the Icicle Café. One of the most common questions I’m asked by both readers and fellow authors is what inspired me to write the novel. There are several factors that went into shaping this story, and I’d love to share them with you!

First off, I love Christmastime. I’m that girl who’s putting up decorations way too early, shopping for gifts in the summertime, watching all the holiday movies, and listening to festive music as soon as the leaves turn colors. So for those reasons alone, I was inspired to write Love at the Icicle Café.

As I began plotting out the book, I decided to pen a story that celebrates love, family and friendship. I wanted to create characters who appear to have it all figured out, when in reality they’re experiencing some real life challenges.

The novel is based in Gosberg, which is a magical little fictitious town located in Germany. I was inspired to create this snowy village by my father, who was stationed in Germany when he served in the U.S. Army. The stories he shared about the wonderful people he met while there helped shape the town’s community.

There are messages in Love at the Icicle Café that I hope will resonate with readers. The characters affirm that it’s never too late to pursue a passion, chase a dream, or go after a lost love. My wish is that their journeys will leave readers feeling encouraged and fulfilled.

Thank you for allowing me to share the things that inspired Love at the Icicle Café. I hope you enjoy reading this sweet holiday romance as much as I enjoyed writing it!
